How Green Influencers Can Positively Shape the Future

In today’s world, sustainability is a crucial concept. Sustainability involves balancing economic development, social well-being, and environmental conservation. Hence, sustainability is necessary to maintain our quality of life, the diversity of life on earth, and the health of the earth’s resource-rich ecosystems. Sustainable development aims to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Awareness and attention to sustainable development are critical, as sustainability is the key to a better future. Therefore, influencer marketing can be a powerful tool. Green influencers can effectively promote sustainability and lead positive movements.

One aspect of sustainable development involves promoting environmentally responsible practices. The objective is to reduce the impact of human activities on the planet, so minimize environmental risks. This includes: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting biodiversity, conserving natural resources, managing wastes, promoting renewable energy, and other related actions.

Influencer marketing can significantly promote sustainability initiatives and environmentally responsible practices using their social media influence. Influencers with a large following on social media can create content or conduct campaigns for wide-ranging purposes. This concerns raising awareness about environmental issues, promoting sustainable products and services, and encouraging their followers to adopt sustainable practices.

Environmental Challenges in Thailand

Environmental challenges are global issues nowadays. Likewise, Thailand faces many environmental problems, including air and water pollution, deforestation, and habitat destruction. According to the Environmental Performance Index 2022, Thailand ranked 108 out of 180 countries. Thailand’s ratings were notably poor in the categories of the Ozone layer, ecosystem vitality, CO2 growth rate, grassland loss, and greenhouse gas emissions. This tells that Thailand’s environmental performances are relatively subpar compared to other countries. But these data also highlight the potential for enhancing environmental sustainability.

Statistics obtained from the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) show that 27.8 million tons of waste are produced per year throughout the country. The volume of recycled waste is less than half of the total waste.  It says only 7.9 million tons of solid waste reported as being recycled. Additionally, air pollution in cities like Bangkok and Saraburi has reached dangerous levels, with levels of PM2.5. These levels are 3.6 times higher than the WHO’s annual air quality guideline value and consistently exceed safety standards.

Thailand is beset with poor environmental conditions. However, data show that there is significant room for improvement in terms of environmental sustainability. To make positive progress toward a greener future, it is important for green influencers to play an active and crucial role. So, they can help promote strong environmental messages, raise awareness about Thailand’s environmental challenges, and encourage individuals and communities to adopt more sustainable practices.

Environmentally Responsible Practices with Green Influencers

The Thai government, NGOs, and many non-profit organizations have been investing lots of efforts to address environmental sustainability issues. For instance, the Thai government has implemented many policies to reduce waste, greenhouse gas emissions, air and water pollution, and the protection of wildlife and forests.

However, these initiatives have not always been successful. One significant problem is the lack of public awareness of environmental issues. People’s low attention toward sustainability makes it difficult to implement effective policies and programs. So, to address this issue, Thai influencers can play a critical role in promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging practical change. Green influencers can positively impact their audience and communities in various ways, and share tips to preserve environmental sustainability.

Raise Awareness with Green Influencers

Influencers can use their social media platforms to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices. There are around 54 million active social media users in Thailand. Therefore, it’s no surprise that social media is a great medium for green influencers to reach their target audience. They can create content about environmental issues and post it on social media. Their content and message would bring these environmental issues to the attention of numerous people. This can include sharing information about the negative impacts of pollution, the benefits of renewable energy, and tips for reducing waste.

Additionally, sustainability influencer marketing would be exclusively effective in targeting Gen Z. The younger generation of Thais, particularly Gen Z, are increasingly interested in environmental issues and sustainability. Based on a survey by YouGov in 2021, 87% of Thai Gen Z respondents said that environmental issues were important to them. Moreover, 77% said they would be willing to pay more for eco-friendly products. As influencers have significant influence among Gen Z audiences, green influencers’ content would have a powerful impact on them. Thus, green influencers can effectively increase awareness about environmental problems.

Encourage People to Take Action With Green Influencers

One of the crucial things that influencers can do is to be vocal and encourage behavioral change. There is a crucial need for people to take action to address environmental issues. Green influencers can inspire their followers to adopt more sustainable practices and make practical changes. This can be done by sharing links to petitions or environmental organizations. Moreover, it can also include sharing their own experiences with zero-waste living, showcasing eco-friendly products and brands, and providing tips and resources for reducing waste.

Green influencers’ environmental activism is one of the most powerful methods to engage people to make environmental conservation actions and promote sustainability. Because of their huge fan following, influencers are perfect advocates for the environment and are fit to educate their followers about pressing environmental concerns. They can encourage people to live sustainably and be more active in environmental advocacy. So people who take action toward sustainability practices would become more aware of current environmental issues and the need for environmental preservation. They would also take positive actions toward a greener future, which is the ultimate goal for environmental sustainability.

Collaborations with Green Influencers

Green influencers have the potential to bridge the gap between government, NGOs, brands, and the public by using their platforms. They can be used to promote sustainable brands, businesses, and organizations that positively impact the environment and community.

Government, NGOs, and Non-Profit Organizations

First, green influencers can use their platforms to advocate for policy changes and greater investment in sustainable practices. This is where influencers can play a crucial role for government, NGOs, and nonprofit organizations. Government and nonprofit organizations have been making significant contributions to address environmental sustainability issues. By providing credible and relatable information, green influencers can help to build public understanding and support for environmental sustainability initiatives.

With their unique positions, they can help make a positive impact on public perception and behavior around environmental sustainability in Thailand. By creating authentic and genuine content, they can help build a stronger connection between the government, NGOs, and the public.

Brands and Businesses

Second, green influencers can be used for promoting sustainable brands, businesses, and products. As consumers become more aware of the environmental impact of their chosen brands and products, they are looking for more eco-friendly options. By promoting sustainable brands, businesses, and products, green influencers can show their followers that it is possible to live a sustainable lifestyle by minimizing waste. Brands and businesses could offer sponsorship or endorsement deals to influencers who can actively promote their sustainable practices and products. By partnering with green influencers, brands and businesses can build credibility for their sustainable products, improve brand awareness, and reach niche audiences. Additionally, the growing interest in sustainability among younger generations in Thailand suggests that there is a real opportunity for brands and businesses to drive more sales and generate higher ROI.
